Hey, Weekend;

photo (and print!) via FreshWordsMarket
Done and Done.

Three-day weekends are usually pretty great, but I really feel like this one outdid itself.

My whole family converged at the lake cabin for Memorial Day weekend: Brother moved his entire apartment in his corvette, and Mom and Dad towed the boat all the way from the Bay Area. Quite the adventure.

The weekend wasn't perfect, by any stretch of the imagination. There was drama regarding getting the boat into the water that involved a grumpy legalistic lady, a snarling rottweiler, and an armed guard. There was brother's almost-drowned corvette at a creek crossing and a completely dead golf-cart. AND there was the entire packed cooler full of food that husband and I left on our kitchen floor at home. Par for the course.

BUT!

It couldn't have been a more perfect weekend. Something about "family-time" makes all the headaches worth it.
Family card games (haha @ Brother's face). Photo from Momma
The weather was beautiful, and for a three-day weekend the lake wasn't all that crowded. As a result, there was lots of boat time, lots of wake-surfing and -boarding, and of course plenty of wipeouts. All of which were incredibly entertaining for all involved, although I still think I've got lake water stuck in my brain.
We do this picture every year, I swear. Husband, me, and Brother; Photo from Momma

Husband tested out our new waterproof digital camera by dunking it in Brother's coffee cup, then took it surfing with him. (the result of the latter was a motion-sickness-inducing merry-go-round, but it was still fun!).

How I felt about surfing...
We BBQd every day, which is as it should be at the lake. Even without all the food we left at home, there was more than enough. Part of that might have been the thousand Costco hot dogs and gallons of salsa/chips that Brother managed to cram into his corvette.
We of course finished the trip the RIGHT way:
How was your weekend??

A&AT (not to be confused with AT&T)

Awkward:
  • Slamming elbow-first into the wall while swimming laps (taking off a good chunk of skin in the process). Apparently, I have a dominant kicking leg, means that I am a ping-pong ball down the lane as I try and correct myself (it's like learning how to drive all over again!). I was told that I should refrain from kicking while I swim until I can control it. I'm sorry, what?
  • The fact that it's barely 10:30 and I'm already starting on my lunch... Applesauce is not the best breakfast food. Also? Guacamole does not make a pretty leftover.
  • Buying gas. First of all, my tank has like a 2 gallon tank (exaggeration, but you get the point). How on EARTH am I paying 50 bucks at the pump? It's ridiculous. More expensive than a shopping addiction. Second, creepy pump people need to stop watching me pump gas. That is all.

Everyday I'm guzzlin'
Awesome:
  • Knocking item after item off my to-do list at work. You know what that means? I'm that much closer to SUMMER! (one of the perks of working in the Education industry! Course, I'm so beat by the time it rolls around that the first week or so is spent doing absolutely nothing).
  • Realizing that our BLTAs last night didn't have any L in them, but had a couple other extras. Telling husband via Google Chat. Spending the next several minutes coming up with acronyms about our dinner.
  • Just negotiated my first sell via Craigslist. It was a free thing, so it's not like I made any money, but I feel POWERFUL. Purging things you don't need anymore feels fantastic.
  • Also internet-related: I think Living Social is reading my mind. Every time I think "Hm. I think I'd like to do such-and-such", a little email pops into my inbox with that exact thing for half-off. The problem with that? The last one I bought expired before I was able to use it.
  • Can anyone say THREE DAY WEEKEND! Wahoo! I can't wait to enjoy this:

(only add a million more people; it is a holiday weekend after all)

Little notes

Dear Creativity:
Curses on you for giving me flashes of inspiration but not the capacity/talent (?) to carry them out. I bit off more than I could chew on a project recently and ruined a birthday present. Guess that's why most normal people buy their friends' birthday presents.

Dear Week:
It's only Wednesday and already I'm totally wiped. Looks like you're going to be around a while.

Dear BB&B:
Don't tell anyone, but I get all of your coupons twice because our previous tenant never changed her address... I love that they never expire and even though the cashier always judges me a little bit, I'm thrilled to use a handful each time I go. (Ditto to Michael's). And I love that I'm still using gift cards, almost 9 months AFTER the wedding. Ha!

Dear Jeggings:
I caved to your comfy-ness *hangs head in shame*. And I think I'm in love.

Dear Desk:
I really would appreciate it if you started to just tidy yourself. I swear as soon as I clear you of papers and textbooks and keys, it all creeps back in. And it's summer, what the heck?! I shouldn't have this much crap.

Dear Summer Vacation spot:
We think we've picked you. Now don't go and up the airline ticket prices in the next couple days, k?

Dear Bert the bird:
You're a brat. And I love you. But you've gotta stop giving my parents hell, K?
I got this pic from my mamma this morning:
"don't mind me, I'm just destroying everything in my path." I love him.

five weekend details

one. My globetrotting parents finally have returned to American soil! Which means we can have text conversations like these again:
We will also be spending NEXT weekend with them, a little detail for which I am uncontrollably excited. YEE!

two. The What to Expect When You're Expecting movie? As great as I thought it would be. Plus we saw it with a great group of people, which made it that much more fantastic.

three. I sort-of-kind-of "invented" an appetizer? So I feel like I should throw a party now. Nom nom nom.

four. Lunching at the Bacara Hotel with good friends. Cocktails poolside all day = bliss. (This photo pretty much sums up our day. That, plus lots and lots of sunshine. Perfection).

five. Husband and I followed up one poolside day with another! We went to the on-campus pool (which faculty & spouses can use without a membership, whoo hoo!) and swam laps for an hour or so. OUUUCH I'm all kinds of sore right now. Slightly embarrassing, but oh so worth it.

What'd you guys do this weekend? Do tell!
