lake life

Happy Tuesday! I'm still recovering from our fantastic weekend--we headed to the lake for some much-needed R&R.

It was Daisy's first time at the lake, so we eased her into the weekend. She grew to tolerate the water (a step in the right direction) and got a chance to run and explore off-leash. The lake was deserted, so we got the place pretty much to ourselves, which meant that we all got exactly the weekend we needed.

On the way home, we stopped in on a winery we'd discovered in December. We stopped in for a tasting as well as a glass of wine, which was the perfect end to a perfect weekend!

In other news, I've been busy as a little bee getting my shop started. I've had the pleasure of making hangers for three weddings as of my Grand Opening on Friday--six hangers total! I'm so thankful for everyone who has been so supportive!

On that note, have you entered my giveaway yet? Want one of my sweetheart hangers for FREE??!  The giveaway ends on friday, so h ead over to this post and enter now!

Memorial Day Weekend 2013

SO Memorial Day weekend was fun.

You may remember that weekend almost two months ago when Tim and I packed up the family cabin and got ready to pass the keys on to some new owners. Well, long story short, (instagram friends may know this already!) the sale fell through, so Tim's mom is looking again for new buyers.

In the meantime, temporarily, the use of the cabin is ours again. Just in time for Memorial Day.

We headed up to Lake Nacimiento friday after work to soak up some rays and catch up with family (This of course means consuming TONS of food and wine, lake-style. Fire up the BBQ, baby!) There were about 24 of us up there at any one time, so it was quite the show.

The community up there hosts competitions on holiday weekends, to keep the little kids occupied. Year after year, the "big kids" (aka adults) all want in on the action as well. As you can imagine it's quite a bit more physical than the little kids..

Sunday afternoon, Tim's brother Bill, sister-in-law Kate, and 13-year-old twin nephews Liam and Colin joined us up at the cabin too. It was so fun! There was driving practice on the golf carts for the twins, water balloon fights, and of course just general horsing around. Those kids LOVE Uncle Tim!

Gusty winds kept us from actually doing any watersports (Memorial Day can be so unpredictable!) but we still managed to get some time in the boat with Bill and Kate and the boys.

While we were out riding, though, we had a little run-in....

Yep, we got pulled over! They were shooting what looked like a training movie, so pretty much everyone out on the water got pulled over for something minor and got "warnings" on tape. It freaked the twins out though! haha

uh, dad???!
We fished (and by "we" I mean the twins and Billy), sunbathed, swam, and caught up. Perfect weekend!

Colin caught a little catfish! Billy made him kiss it; gross!
Kate and I catching up and soaking in some vitamin D!
Their Doxie-uaua Louis. Cute little chubby guy!
How was your Memorial Day?

nostalgia

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you have probably heard about "The Lake".
Tim's mom has had a cabin on Lake Nacimiento for almost 25 years; Tim grew up there, and when I came into his life, we began making our own memories there.

It was where we got engaged, spent part of our honeymoon, and celebrated our First Anniversary.
Throughout our dating and married life, the cabin has become a fixture. Such a retreat just three hours away! Anytime we needed to "get away from it all", we'd hop on up to the lake. Memorial Days, Fourth of Julys, St-Patrick's Days, winter days, random need-to-catch-up-on-work days, backbreaking work days and lay-in-the-sun all day days. Even the drive home brings back so many memories!

This year, though, Summer will be different for us. Easter Sunday, the cabin sold. We all thought it was an April Fools joke at first, but no. We're heading up today to pack it up.

There are still two "family" cabins up there, so our days of memory-making at the lake are not necessarily over just because "our" cabin sold. But will it be the same?

Growing up sucks sometimes.
